Abstract

The traumatic bone cyst is a benign, non-neoplastic, non-epithelial-lined intraosseous cavity, usually diagnosed incidentally during routine radiographic examinations, particularly in young patients. This article reports the case of a 12-year-old male patient in whom a radiolucent image was identified in the mandibular symphysis region during orthodontic assessment. The lesion was asymptomatic, presenting no significant clinical abnormalities, and pulp vitality of the mandibular incisors was confirmed. Surgical exploration revealed a cavity filled with a blood clot, and the diagnostic hypothesis was confirmed via histopathological examination. Treatment consisted of curettage of the bony walls to stimulate new bone formation - a method considered the gold standard. Radiographic follow-up showed favorable progression of tissue repair. This case underscores the importance of accurate differential diagnosis, surgical exploration for diagnostic confirmation, and postoperative monitoring - especially in the context of orthodontic planning - and tooth movement should only be initiated after complete bone healing radiographically confirmed.
